We’re testing a phone version of tournament scoring, and you’re invited to try it. Nothing about the normal routine changes — you still keep and turn in the paper card. The app just rides along, and after your group submits, every player with an email on file gets the full scorecard by email. Here’s all you need to know.
Skins (Member Appreciation Day): the skins are worked out from the app’s hole-by-hole scores, so make sure your group scores in the app.

Narrated — and the on-screen captions carry everything too, so it works fine on mute.
Before tournament day
- Bookmark the page (once): open haverstrawgolfclub.com/score/ in your normal browser and save it to your bookmarks or favorites. Nothing to install — it runs in the browser like any other web page.
- Make sure the club has your email — send your address to tournaments@haverstrawgolfclub.com. After each round, a copy of your group’s scorecard is emailed to that address.
- Watch for the event code — the club uses one standing code, sent by text, usually as a tap-to-open link (or a QR at the first tee). Tapping it unlocks scoring automatically; you can always type the code instead.
During the round
- 1Two scorekeepers per group. One keeps the paper card as always; another volunteers as marker and scores in the app. Everyone else just plays — or follows along live (see below).
- 2Unlock. The marker scans the QR poster or taps the texted link — or just types the code (capitals don’t matter). Some weekends host two tournaments: the app then asks which event your group is playing, and its name shows at the top all round.
- 3Build the group. Marker: add yourself first — the attester must be someone else in the group. Then add each player by name — start typing a first or last name (any capitals, a few letters is enough) and tap the right name in the list. When your name goes in, confirm your tee — the dropdown sets your course handicap (locked to Friday morning’s update). Cartmates entered in different events? See “Two events, one weekend” below. Shotgun events (like Member Appreciation Day): the app first asks which hole your group starts on — pick it at the top of the screen; Start scoring waits until you do. Scoring then runs on through 18 to hole 1.
- 4Score hole by hole. Tap + / − per player (first tap = par), then the big Hole 2 › button pinned at the bottom of the screen — it takes you back up to the first player on the next hole. Red = birdie or better, black = par, blue = bogey or worse; green dots mark handicap-stroke holes, and each player’s card shows a running net-to-par figure. A standings line under the cards keeps the group’s race current. At the turn, check everyone’s Front 9 — gross with the green net beside it — against the paper card (started on another hole? the app shows each nine’s check as you finish it). Team events show a live team-net strip.
- 5Reconcile & attest. After 18, the Review screen shows everyone’s full 18-hole card — colors, stroke dots, and a green net row under each nine. Team events add each team’s counting-ball row — the team’s net per hole at the event’s allowance, initials showing whose ball counted — so the team score can be checked hole by hole too. Read it all against the paper card together, then a second player attests — same as signing. Spot a wrong number? Tap that hole on the card and the app jumps straight to it — fix it, then tap ‹ Back to Review in the middle of the bar at the bottom of the screen. No stepping back one hole at a time. (A tagged Attester — not playing is already selected, with an Attesting only badge on their card.)
- 6Submit once — then turn in the signed paper card. Spot a mistake later? Reopen with “Fix something,” correct it, resubmit — the latest submission counts. Fixes and unsent scores must go through before the event’s window closes — usually Monday night, the same day for one-day events like Member Appreciation Day. After that, corrections go to the committee.
Player tags — teams, singles & attesters
On team events, the marker taps the button beside each name to set how that player competes. Each tap moves one step:
Tap to set team → Team 1 → Team 2 → Indiv — points only → Attester — not playing → back to blank (4-man events have only Team 1 — the whole foursome is one team)
- Team 1 / Team 2 — in the team competition (a 2-man event splits a foursome 2 & 2).
- Indiv — points only — no partner, or a player short? Your round still counts for season Challenge Cup points, just not the team prize. A team must be complete — a 4-man event needs all four cards, and the app won’t start or submit a team of three. If a teammate can’t play, tag the rest Indiv — points only (and the non-player Attester — not playing if they’re along to sign).
- Attester — not playing — along only to sign off. Their card gets no score buttons, so nothing can land on them by accident. (Singles events: tap Tap if attesting only beside the name instead.)
Alternate-hole events add a second, colored chip to each tagged player — the holes their ball counts on:
P1 · 1·5·9·13·17 P2 · 2·6·10·14·18 P3 · 3·7·11·15 P4 · 4·8·12·16
The rotation follows the order you added the players, so it usually needs no change — but if your team is playing it differently, tap a chip to swap that player’s spot with the next one until the chips match the order you’re actually playing. (A two-man alternate-hole event just reads P1 · Odd holes / P2 · Even holes.) Enter every player’s score on every hole as usual — the app works out which ball counts, and the Review screen lists the rotation so you can check it before signing.
The chip stays on each player’s card while you score, too — and on the card whose ball counts for the hole you’re entering, YOUR HOLE appears beside the − button. It moves with the rotation as you page through the holes, so you never have to work out whose ball counts; the other three chips dim on that hole. On the scoring screen the chips are only a reminder — the rotation is set on the group screen, and it locks for good the moment your team has a score on the board.
Playing alone? Every submission needs an attesting member — the app reminds you from hole 1, and you can add them with “‹ Edit group” any time, even back at the clubhouse after the round.
Age-division events (e.g. Under 60 - Over 60) tag players the same way, with a division badge instead of a team button — tap it to set which sign-up sheet a player is on: Tap to set division → Under 60 → 60 & Over → back to Under 60. The badge sets that player’s tee for you — Under 60 plays White, 60 & Over plays Gold — so there’s no separate tee to pick or get wrong. Women get one extra chip next to the badge, ● Red tees — Red by default; tap it to switch to ● Gold tees and back. White is never offered to a woman on this event. The division badge also stays beside each player’s name while you score — worth a glance for the women in the group, whose tee doesn’t give the division away the way White and Gold do for the men.
Watch the round live — every event
The other players in the group — or anyone at the club — can follow the card as the marker fills it in, like a paper card passed around:
- 1Open the scoring page and tap “Watching only? See live scoring” — enter the same event code, pick the event, pick your group. (Tapped the group’s link and landed on the player screen instead? Use “Not the marker? Watch this round live.”)
- 2Read the board. Everyone’s holes with the same colors and stroke dots, running totals, a net-to-par figure per player, and a 🏆 on the current leader. It refreshes itself every 45 seconds — or tap Refresh.
- 3It’s read-only. The marker’s phone is the scorecard; watching never changes a number. If the board says the last update is a while old, the marker is probably in a dead spot — scores catch up when signal returns.
Two events, one weekend (rare)
About once a season, two tournaments share a weekend. The same code and QR work — the app just asks one extra question:
- 1Choose your option. After the code, two boxes appear. Option 1 — most groups: everyone in your group plays the same event — pick which one and everything works exactly like a normal weekend. Option 2: players in your group are entered in different events — tap “Set up mixed group.”
- 2Mixed group: tag each player’s event. A colored event button sits beside each name — tap it to set that player’s tournament. Tees and handicaps follow each player’s own event, and the tag stays beside their name all round. Tagged someone wrong? Tap the button again on the group screen — their entered scores are kept.
- 3One attestation covers the whole card. By attesting you confirm the scores for every player in the group — both events — against the paper card, not just your own tournament’s. The app then submits one entry per event automatically.
- 4Watching? Same code — you’ll pick the event, then the group. A mixed group shows up under each event with its own players.
After you submit — check your email
Every player with an email on file gets the same message: your group’s full scorecard.
- Everyone’s hole-by-hole scores in the app’s colors, dots on your handicap-stroke holes, and a net row for each nine
- Team events add each team’s counting-ball card — whose ball counted, hole by hole
- Your own section is tagged your scores
Non-playing attesters and anyone with no scores don’t get a copy. First time? Check spam/junk. Replies go straight to the tournament committee.
Quick answers
“It says No event open.” The app only unlocks during an event window — usually Friday through the Monday after. Scoring is closed Tuesday–Thursday, even in the middle of a two-weekend event.
The code won’t take. Make sure it’s the code from the committee’s text or poster. Capitals and stray spaces don’t matter.
“Handicaps haven’t posted yet.” Scoring opens the moment Friday’s handicap update lands — early Friday morning, so you’ll rarely see this. Already scanned the QR? Your code is saved while this page stays open — just tap Check again (closed it? scan or type the code again).
No email came. Check spam first, then make sure we have your address (tournaments@haverstrawgolfclub.com). Once it’s on file, a resubmit sends a fresh copy.
My handicap looks off. Handicaps lock to Friday morning’s update, and the tee dropdown drives the number — check your tee with the marker.
My handicap looks low / no stroke on a par 3. Some events set a lower allowance, a maximum handicap, or no strokes on the par 3s — the PH tag beside each name shows the allowance (e.g. PH 10 · 50% · cap 20), and the app applies the event’s rules for you.
Picked the wrong starting hole? Tap ‹ Edit group — the starting-hole box is still at the top; change it and tap Resume scoring. Scores already entered stay where they are: if any went on the wrong hole, go to that hole, tap − until it’s blank, and enter the score on the right hole.
I can’t find a player’s name. Type a few letters of the first or last name. Only active playing members appear — handicap-only members can’t be entered (the app says so); see the committee.
I played alone — it won’t let me submit. Correct: every submission needs an attesting member. ‹ Edit group → add them → tag Attester — not playing → submit. That works even back at the clubhouse.
One score is wrong on the Review screen. Tap that hole right on the player’s card — the app opens it ready to change, then ‹ Back to Review brings you back. A round still needs all 18 holes before Review, so if you clear a hole instead of correcting it, re-enter it before heading back.
No signal? The app works offline all round. If you tap Submit with no signal, a yellow “Not submitted yet” note appears: your scores are saved on the phone, and the app sends them by itself as soon as it finds signal — as long as the page is open, or the next time you open the app (while the event’s scoring window is still open). You can also tap Try again now. Worst case, the paper card is the round — nothing is ever lost.
Can I see the scores without being the marker? Yes — that’s watch mode (see “Watch the round live” above). Read-only, on your own phone, updating as the marker scores.
Wrong tournament or just stuck? Add ?reset=1 to the address for a clean start — it clears this phone only, and anything already submitted stays safe. Don’t use it while a round is still unsent — it erases scores that haven’t gone through. Then scan or enter your event’s code again. (Round 2 of a two-weekend event needs nothing special — it opens as its own event, e.g. “Seniors Club Championship (Round 2)”.)
